- For a cat that’s been outside for years and so neglected he’s amazingly friendly and social. I hope he does well in his new home and gets the medical care he needs. We adopted a stray cat three years ago who had hung around our house for 6 months. He developed a urinary tract problem that resulted in major surgery and $3000 in vet bills. He’s fine now and enjoying being an indoor cat but he was one expensive stray! 🙂 We’re glad we could help him and give him a good life. He probably would have died if we didn’t rescue him.

- I just want to drop a comment here specifically with respect to scouts thyroid condition. In cats, that almost always means that they are hyper thyroid, meaning their thyroid is overactive. This could also potentially be a reason for the heart murmur. Hyper thyroid in cat is almost always caused by a benign non-cancerous tumor or tumors on the thyroid gland itself. There are two approaches to this condition, one is basically trying to manage it with medication, and the other one cures it 96% of the time. The curative treatment is to get the cat into a center that administers radioactive iodine therapy. I know that sounds scary, but it’s not. It’s a simple injection, it does not irradiate your cat, end it destroys the tumor and only the tumor. That’s why this therapy is curative. It is expensive upfront, but over a longer-term less expensive than managing a cat through medication. Medication simply tries to lower the amount of thyroid hormone in the body. It’s impossible to know what the right dose is out of the gate, and it requires frequent trips to the vet to check bloodwork and make any adjustments. That adds up to being more expensive over time than the curative radioactive iodine therapy. Moreover, treating it with medication can also mask underlying kidney issues on bloodwork. For anyone with the ability to pursue radioactive iodine treatment, I highly recommend it. One of my cats had it, and she has been literally cured ever since November 2019.

- Blessings to all. I have watched and learnt so much from your rescues. Many people in my country are no where near the empathy you all give to these animals. My first adopted cat (an outside cat) 5 1/2 years old was gone a couple days, most she will spend outside, then it increased to 3 and 4 days. I went looking for her, I was told she might have been poisoned along with 2 other tabbies. I was torn inside, but the Lord blessed me with another. A stray cat that lives next to my place of work, it is a business, had kittens and I adopted one 2 weeks ago, a fiesty little runt, love him, he is adding what my lost kitty gave and left with me. The owners of the business is taking care of the stray, her name is Kassie and her babies. Blessings to all animal caretakers, animal shelters their workers the animal hospitals foster moms and dads. God will enrich you more than you can imagine. We need to take care of his animal creation.

I know that sometimes people just aren’t prepared for the financial and emotional toll that a special needs kitty can have.For people who have the finances, love and dedication to care for animals with special needs, there are organizations that specialize in animals with special needs (heart conditions, missing limbs, paraplegic, incontinent, epileptic, blind, deaf, FIV+, feline leukemia positive, cancers, mega esophagus, etc). There’s plenty of kitties just like Scout in need of loving forever homes.
If you’re unable to take one in but you would like to help, please reach out to these groups and see if volunteering is right for you. There’s nothing quite like being in the middle of a kitty cuddle puddle.

- This particular cat called Scout obviously wanted to be rescued, he knew he was very ill and needed veterinarian care, and someone to look after him. Well done indeed again! 👏
- I never understand how a cat or any animal can be “living on the streets for 2 years” without someone doing something. If I ever see a lost dog or cat here there are usually 2 or more people stopping to help it. In the last couple of months I was involved in the “rescues” of 4 dogs, 2 ducks, 1 kookaburra and a blue tongue lizard. All 4 dogs were escape artists and via chip they were returned, the others were picked up by our local wildlife group as they were injured (the lizard had to be put down as it had been seen being attacked by a cat). One of the ducks had an injured leg and it’s partner wouldn’t leave it so they were taken to get care together, and the Kookaburra had flown into my window but I was informed it would be checked out by the vet (for free as a native animal) and if possible released back in the same area.
